Whale Chat is a digital project that convenes the recent and not so recent past with the present through a multi-layered digital investigation of an oral history artifact.
The project showcases illustrative visual artifacts, family archival material, and contemporary musings inspired by the recording of the Mashpee Wampanoag historian Ramona Peters and the anthropologist Jason Mancini discussing Indigenous whaling as a way of maintaining, building and activating the vibrancy of the historical knowledge it contains.
